How to launch an independent magazine | Online masterclass | 27th June 2024

We will be running a live online class on Zoom from 7pm-9.15pm UK time on Thursday 27th June 2024 to teach you everything you need to launch an independent publication.

In this online class taught over Zoom you will:

  • Learn how to turn your magazine idea into reality
  • Find out how to identify a successful editorial niche
  • Understand the nuts and bolts of commissioning writers and designers
  • See how to pull together a winning subscription, distribution and marketing plan
  • Be shown how to create a realistic budget for your first issue
  • Discover how to survive and thrive beyond the first year

You will leave with a good insight into the independent publishing industry and a strong idea of how to set about launching an independent magazine. After the class we’ll send you a directory of useful companies and contacts to help get you on your way.

The details
The class will take place online, over Zoom. The class will be limited to a maximum of 15 participants.

As an additional benefit of the class we offer the option to participants to be put in touch with one another afterwards, to form a group whose members can help one another with support and advice when they set out to launch their publications.

Tickets
Tickets cost £36 (including VAT) for subscribers and £60 (including VAT) for non-subscribers. We’ll ask for your delivery postcode to verify your subscription when you book your ticket.

The tutors
In January 2011 Rob Orchard co-launched Delayed Gratification, a quarterly news magazine that returns to big events after the dust has settled. He’s condensed 12 years of the lessons he and his co-editor Marcus Webb have learned into this tip-filled course. He and Marcus have won Independent Editors of the Year three times at the British Society of Magazine Editors awards.
