Watch: The Winchcombe fireball
In issue #42 of Delayed Gratification, out now, Chris Bourn uncovers the fascinating backstory behind the successful capture of a series of 4.6 billion-year-old bits of space rock which plummeted to ground in the Cotswolds in February. The discovery could help scientists in their search to uncover the origins of life on Earth, and wouldn’t have happened without the stalwart efforts of a former solar farm developer, a network of cameras and a Waitrose freezer bag.
Here’s a couple of videos of the fireball shooting down towards towards Gloucestershire, courtesy of Richard Fleet of the UK Meteor Observation Network, Wilcot and Ben Stanley of AllSky7 net, Nuneaton UK. To pick up a copy of the new issue and read the story in full, head to our online shop.
