Infographic: Monumental sporting droughts
On 3rd November 2016 the Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians to become World Series champions for the first time in 108 years. Thus ended one of baseball’s most famous ongoing jinxes.
Over the decades many had put the Cubs’ inability to take the title down to the so-called “Curse of the Billy Goat” – a hex supposedly placed on the team by Billy Goat Tavern owner William Sianis in 1945 after he was banned from taking his pet goat to the Cubs’ Wrigley Field stadium because of the smell. Clearly, he wasn’t kidding.
To celebrate the lifting of this curse, in DG#25 we looked at some other famous long-term championship chokers of the past century. Hover over the infographic below to find out which teams have had the longest dry spells in sporting history.
